Ice Fishing Year End Wrap Up

2 - Title PictureWith the ice quickly disappearing and the sounds of springtime in the air I find myself reflecting on the winter ice fishing season and the memories made guiding adventurous anglers throughout the Haliburton Forest in hopes of catching the fish of a lifetime.

This year marked the introduction of the guided fishing experience here at Haliburton Forest and we entered the season with an optimistic outlook that the program would be successful and attract new anglers to our community. Although the lakes got off to a slow start building up safe ice, by mid-January the stage was set, inquiries had started coming in, and the season had begun!

In total we ran 9 ice fishing tours this year and welcomed 33 new guests to the Forest. Clients came from a wide variety of backgrounds and locations but were united in their passion for fishing and the outdoors. We even welcomed a few 6 - body 4writers and photographers from some notable tourism and outdoors publications. The majority of our guided trips were focused on our put, grow & take lakes which resulted in some spectacular fish being caught. A membership to the Haliburton Forest Fishing Society was included when guests booked a guided fishing tour to ensure that all parties are contributing to sustainable fisheries management and the continued stocking of our lakes.

All in all, year one of guided ice fishing was a marked success and we look forward to continuing to grow this program next season!  Building off of this momentum, we will also be curating a selection of summer guided fishing experiences as well. More details are soon to come so make sure to follow us on social media to keep informed!
