5 Things to Do in the Haliburton Highlands
Here are our top 5 recommendations of things to do in the Haliburton Highlands.
1. Visit Abbey Gardens
A former gravel pit transformed into a beautiful community greenspace, Abbey Gardens hosts its own programming and special events, in addition to housing several local businesses, including an Enchanted Garden for the kids (and kids at heart).
One of those businesses is Haliburton Highlands Brewing, which is open 7 days a week—from the Victoria Day long weekend to Thanksgiving—for beer tastings and brewery tours.
2. See the Highlands on Horseback
The Wild Life offers equestrian experiences throughout the summer months. Visitors can choose from several different programs, including therapeutic riding and group lessons.
You can also check out The Wild Life’s health food and bath products, made from ingredients foraged right from Haliburton Forest!
3. Dine Out at Rhubarb Restaurant
Described as “upscale casual dining,” Rhubarb Restaurant boasts seasonal menus and local ingredients. Serving new special features on a nightly basis, everything at Rhubarb Restaurant is prepared in-house.
The Rhubarb is also home to Boshkung Brewing Co., another local brewery. Rhubarb’s menu also includes a selection of Ontario wines.
4. Get a Local Perspective with Your Outdoors
Yours Outdoors connects visitors to the Haliburton Highlands with group experiences that celebrate local arts, heritage, culture, and of course—outdoor adventure.
Explore a variety of available activities, from moccasin making to ziplining!
5. Sail Above a Lake with Ski-Mazing Watersports School
Ski-mazing is the best waterski, wakeboard, and barefoot watersports school in Haliburton. Sail high above the beautiful forests and lakes of Ontario, enjoy watersport lessons, or tubing and banana boat rides.
The Ski-mazing team has years of experience and even provides summer camps if you plan on staying around cottage country for summer vacation. About an hour away from Haliburton Forest, this activity requires more travel time than the others on your list. But you won’t find a more exhilarating way of seeing the surrounding area.
